SOTE Theisen/Kane & Steele
Grace Theisen has learned to stop apologizing for being herself. She will take up a lot of space, in fact she will wear heels. Her name is pronounced "Tyson," but she is not going to change the spelling to make your life easier. She will revel in the sweet dirty Androgynous Americana rocky twang sound she has settled on, like a jar of homemade bread and butter pickles. She surrounds herself with the greatest talent she can find, and these days that amounts to an all female band. Grace returned from Nashville to Kalamazoo, when most alt country artists go the other direction, and will lead her own revolution of melody from here. Come down to the river with Grace Theisen, certified wild woman, and be baptized in your own power.
Shari Kane and Dave Steele play in close proximity and tight harmony, but not as one mind, their disparate skills and life experiences combining like a fresh baked casserole. They certainly share influences, but Shari is bringing folk melodies and crisp, precise fingerpicking like new mown wheat, and Dave rolls up out of the blues with a feeling of smoke and whiskey. Their life together is spent smearing the lines between them and their influences into something that comes out of the oven fresh and new: not his or hers, but theirs.
